Lola – Elbow Dysplasia

Lola, a 2 year old Chocolate Labrador, is an interesting case of acupuncture and Gold Beads Implantation – a procedure that helps lots of animals that suffer from chronic pain. She has elbow dysplasia – a disease of the elbow, causing progressive arthritis of the elbow joint leading to pain and loss of function.  Because of her affected elbow she developed a front limb lameness which worsened after exercise.

She couldn’t handle taking painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs indefinitely, so we treated her with acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Her pain and lameness decreased significantly but it never completely resolved. We then decided to perform a gold bead implantation.  The interesting fact is that usually we see positive responses to this technique in about a week but Lola took nearly 1 month to stop limping. She finally did and today – 7 years later, she is still pain free with no lameness, which is an amazing result.

Hi, My name is Christina. I have a very loved Chocolate Labrador called Lola. When she was 2 years old, she was limping badly and then she was diagnosed with elbow displaysia. That’s when I met Flavia.

She did a wonderful job treating Lola with acupuncture. Lola used to sleep during the sessions and she seemed to like it, always relaxing. She got better but the lameness was still present after several treatments. So, Flavia decided to implant little gold beads in specific points of Lola’s elbow and limbs. The result was amazing. She stopped limping and she still doesn’t limp – 7 years later! Flavia is a very competent professional, with a lot of knowledge but beyond all of this, her love for animals is enormous.
