Sofia – Polyradiculoneuritis & Tetraparalysis

Sofia, this adorable 4 years old Labrador, suddenly lost her ability to stand up/walk and bark properly.  Very quickly she lost an important amount of muscle mass and weight.  She was diagnosed with Polyradiculoneuritis (Coonhound paralysis). This is an acute neurologic disorder in dogs affecting the nerves controlling the muscles of the front and hind limbs, the neck, and the muscles that control breathing and barking.

This condition usually has a good prognosis but can relapse. Severely affected dogs may suffer mild, permanent neurologic disorder.  In my experience treating this condition with acupuncture promotes a faster recovery decreasing the chance of neurologic deficits. In this particular case, I also used two Chinese Herbs Formula. Sofia recovered quickly and had no relapses.
